Harry F. Wagner Dies Here

A former Ionia business man, Harry F. Wagner, who was connected with the retail
and wholesale clothing business many years, died Thursday night at Ionia County
Memorial hospital.  He was born in Benton township, Eaton county, October 3,
1886 the son of Mr. and Mrs. Barthold Wagner.  He received his early education
in Grand Ledge schools.

In 1905 he came to Ionia with his brothers to work in the clothing business
which was the beginning of a long career in merchandising.  In 1906 he was
associated with his brothers in the J.F. Wagner clothing store at the corner of
Main and Steele streets.  Later Harry and his brother Charles purchased the
interest of J.F. and the business became known as Wagner Brothers.  The business
was disposed of in the early 1930s and Harry travel several years for clothing
firms.

He was a life member of Ionia Masonic lodge and a member of First Christian
church where he served as a deacon several years.  In later years he attended
East Odessa Wesleyan church.

Surviving are his wife, Laura; two daughters, Faye Wagner of Grand Rapids and
Mrs. Jack Hamm of King of Prussia, a suburb of Philadelphia, Pa.; son, Richard
of Grand Rapids, and four grandchildren; brother, Albert of Lansing and several
nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Stone-Kauffman funeral home with
Rev. D.L. Thurston of East Odessa church officiating, assisted by Rev. Alton S.
Joppe of Monroe.  Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery.  The family will be
at the funeral home Friday and Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday afternoon. 
A memorial fund has been established.
