Wagner, age 58, found peace on Saturday, April 21, 2007. He was born on March 31, 1949, in Ionia, MI, the son of Louis and Mary (Kazik) Wagner. Phillip was a member of the United States Army in 1967 and 1968, serving in Vietnam, where he was shot down and wounded while holding the position of helicopter gunnery for the 1st Calvary. He was awarded 2 purple hearts for his service to his country. Philip was a lifetime resident of Ionia, a member of Ionia's Moose Lodge, and employed at Fisher Body for 18 years. While he loved fishing and hunting, Phillip's greatest love was always reserved for family, but especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Patricia Wagner-Smith; son, Michael Wagner; daughter, Tina Wagner-Dowell; grandchildren, Ashley Wagner, Brittany Snell, Daniel Snell, and Michael Dowell; and his brother Lou Wagner. For his love and his kindness, he will always be remembered and missed. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich St., Ionia, with Pastor Kenneth Harger presiding. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery on a later date.
