Life of Energy and Helpfulness. Leaves Many Friends. Always Cheerful. One of the most widely known citizens of Lake Odessa, Charles Waite, died Saturday after months of combat with the great enemy disease. Mr. Waite suffered from heart trouble and many times during the last year his life hung in the balance but time and again his strong constitution and will power prevailed but the last attack was followed by a stroke which terminated his life. Perhaps there was no man in this village more enthusiastically engaged in the promotion of our beautiful resort than the deceased. He was appreciated and respected by all with his cheerful disposition. The funeral was held at the Lakeside home where he had spent so many happy hours. The sermon was by Rev. G. J. Start and prayer and obituary by Rev. O. F. Bulman. The music was by a male quartette – Messrs. William and Leon Gilson, Merlin Morgan and George Kart, accompanied by Mrs. Leon Gilson. Burial was at Belding. Obituary Charles Waite, son of Charles F. and Lucie W. Waite, was born April 19, 1866 and had he lived until April 19, 1930 would have been 64 years of age. In 1887 in Boston he was married to Miss Ada L. Temple. To this union five children were born, all of whom are living. They are Arthur Temple Waite, Belding; Mrs. Mildred Kiskey, Belding; Mrs. Florence Zeitler, Charlevoix; Elizabeth and Edwin Waite of Belding. The family lived in New Brunswick, N. J. for three years, then moved to Chicago, Ill., where they lived seven years, then moving to Rossville, Ill., where they lived ten years, then to Belding, living there 19 years and where Mrs. Waite, the mother of the five children, died April 3, 1922. December 20, 1924 he was united in marriage to Hannah E. Shepard of Lake Odessa. They have always made their home at the Waite Inn and enjoyed each others companionship. He leaves to mourn their loss besides the widow and children, two brothers and two sisters, Irwin Waite of Bedford, Mass.; Philip Waite of Stoneham, Mass.; Mrs. Perkins of Lynn, Mass., and Mrs. A. Martin of Mansfield, O., and eight grandchildren. He was a member of the Congregational church and Commercial club of Lake Odessa, the Board of Commerce and the Sportsman club of Belding and the Elks at Ionia.
