Richard "Dick" Vern Waite, age 89, of Lake Odessa went to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, March 11, 2018. Richard was a Christmas baby, born on December 25, 1928, in Spring Lake. He was the son of Vern E. and Daisy M. (Spring) Waite and grew up in Hazel Park and Rockford area. Richard enlisted in 1947 in the United States Army. He served in the 71st Signal Service Battalion and was located in the East Command in Tokyo, Japan. He was honorably discharged after three years in April of 1950. In 1951 Richard completed his education and graduated from Rockford High School, His early career began as a milk tester for the Michigan dairy Herd Improvement Association. His life profession was in the trucking industry working as a dispatcher and later as a safety inspector for Michigan express trucking, Subler Trucking and Thornapple Valley meat company. Richard Married his wife Joyce E (Haskins) Waite on June 19, 1955 and shared 62 years of marriage living in Alto and the Lake Odessa area. Richard's hobbies and interests included farming, trains, visiting lighthouses, painting, cooking and garage sale. He was a longtime member of Lakewood United Methodist Church serving as a Lay Leader for 44 years. Most recently he was involved with The Crossing Church of Lake Odessa. He is survived by his wife Joyce; sons, John (Cindy) Waite of Lake Odessa, Jim (Colleen) Waite of Belmont; grandchildren, Tabitha (Josh) Yuhas of Wyoming, Michael-John (Ashley) Waite of Washington D. C., Corey Waite of Greenville, Danny Waite of Belmont; great-grandchildren, Avalon and Josiah Yuhas; sisters, Barbara Fischer of Grand Rapids and Doreen (Jay) Gould of Port Austin. Richard Services were held at Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa on Saturday, March 17, 2018. Memorial contributions may be made in Richard's memory to The Crossing of Lake Odessa.
