Feb. 27, 2016 STEVEN J. WAKELY Sunfield, MI - Steven J. Wakley, of Sunfield, age 54, passed away February 19. 2016 at his home. Mr. Wakley was born July 1, 1961 in Lansing, a son of David and Lynn (Haltiner) Wakley. Steve was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He loved God's creation and enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. Watching wildlife on and around his pond in the backyard was a favorite past time. He enjoyed working with his hands and was a member of Plumbers & Pipefitters Union, Local 333. Steve was an avid fan of MSU sports and basketball in particular. He was diagnosed with ALS i 2011 and fought it with an unbelievable attitude. Steve never met anyone he did not like and will be missed by a multitude of family and friends. Surviving are his wife of 19 years Tammy; children, Christian (Jeff) Short of Mentone, IN; Charissa (Jerett) Kelly of Palatine, IL, Steven "John" Wakley, Jr. of Ft. Drum, NY; Benjamin Wakley of Sunfield, Megan Wakley of Sunfield; five grandchildren; his former wife, Diane (Tom) Jekel of Hope, IN; mother, Lynn Wireman of Bellevue; sister, Laura (Tony) Cushman of Olivet; Dave (Jeri) Wakley of Lake Odessa, Neil (Heidi) Wakley of Battle Creek; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Services were held Wednesday, Feb 24, 2016 at Sunfield United Brethren Church with Pastor Lester DeGroot officiating. Interment followed at Sunfield Cemetery. Memorials donations may be made to Sunfield S.P.Y.S., University of Michigan Health systems - ALS Clinic fund (UMHS office of development, Attn: Memorial Gifts, 1000 Oakbrook, Suite 100, Ann Arbor, MI. 48104) or the charity of your choice.
