Bill was born June 11, 1920 in McBain, the son of William Edward and Ida Mae (Bodary) Walker. He was raised in Portland and was a 1938 graduate of Portland High School. He married the former Mona Mae Luce on April 4, 1953 and she preceded him in death on Jan. 11, 2001. Bill worked for Oldsmobile in Lansing for 33 years retiring in 1980. During his retirement he enjoyed his grandchildren, supervising neighborhood projects and fishing. Survivors include one daughter Charlene (Chuck Cutting) Lawhorn of Ionia, two sons, William (Tina) Walker of Gladstone; seven grandchildren, Autumn Combs of Portland, Ore., William Combs of Lake Odessa, Abbie, Emmie Jo and Kallie Walker of Lake Odessa, Chad and Kaili Walker of Gladstone; and one sister, Mary (Harold) Green of Bonita Spring, Fla. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son-in- law, Ivan Lawhorn; two sisters, Erma Newman and Elsie Eckard; and four brothers, Walter, Harvey, Eldred and Donald Walker. Bill’s family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa. Funeral services celebrating the life of William L. Walker Sr. will follow at 7 p.m. at the Koops Funeral Chapel with Rev. George Speas officiating. A luncheon will follow the services at the home of William and Tina Walker Jr. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Lake Odessa. Memorials in memory of William L. Walker may be directed to the Portland V.F.W., Barry County Hospice or to the organization of the donor’s choice. Envelopes will be available at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa.
