Sept. 7, 2013 Greenville- Marian Audrey Walker, 96, of Greenville, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at Spectrum Health United Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center in Greenville. She was born Dec. 15, 1916, on the family centennial farm in Otisco Township, the daughter of C.B. and Pearl (Cowles) Johnston of Belding. She is survived by several special nieces, nephews, cousins, and many wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Porter A. Walker in 2007. they were married for 63 years. She was also preceded in death by an infant son; her parents; and two sisters, Lucille Krouse and Ina Fries. Marian graduated from Belding High School, Class of 1935. She was a member of the Greenville First United Methodist Church where she was a choir member for many years and served on missions and other work areas in her church. Marian worked for 30 years at United Memorial Hospital, retiring as Administrative Assistant in 1979. After retiring, she worked part-time at Cook Brothers Southwestern Oil for many years, which she enjoyed and where she had a special working relationship with her friend, Marilyn Stankey. She was a hospital volunteer for many years and Red Cross volunteer for 21 years. She was a past recipient of the Susan Christensen Award. When able, Marian loved to walk, especially around Baldwin Lake. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greenville First United Methodist Church, with Marian's pastor, Rev. Steve Charnley, officiating. Inurnment will be with her sweetheart and friend, Porter Walker, in the church columbarium. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Spectrum Health United Memorial Foundation or to Greenville First United Methodist Church Missions.
