Jan. 9, 1964 Local Resident Passes Away Charles A. Walker, 82, a local community resident for 17 years passed away at Blodgett Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids Tuesday, Dec. 21st. Mr. Walker was born in Davidsons, Mains, Edinburgh, Scotland June 22. 1881. He went to Harrow, Ontario, at the age of 17, where he served in the Canadian army after which he came to Michigan and was herdsman on the Prescott Ranch at Prescott, Michigan. Shortly after, he accepted a position as herdsman at Michigan State University, where he served in that capacity for twenty six years. He retired from the University in 1946 and came to Lake Odessa as herdsman on the Walter Reed Hereford Farms, where he had charge of 300 head of whiteface cattle. He fitted many good cattle and produced the Grand Champion Hereford which was sold at the Western Michigan Livestock Show at Grand Rapids in 1953. Since his retirement he had made his home with Mrs. Ada Shupp on Jordan lake Street. Surviving are two nieces, Mrs. Donalda Sellick of Harrow, Ontario, Mrs. Dorothy Wilson of Hamilton, Ontario, and a sister Mrs. May Scott of Edinburgh, Scotland. Services were held at the Pickens Funeral Chapel Saturday. Jan. 4, with Rev. Luther Brokaw officiating. Burial in Glendale cemetery at Okemos in the shadow of Michigan State University.
