Walsh, 71, of Detroit, a former Ionia resident, died June 30 in Detroit. He was born Aug. 6, 1915, the son of Michael and Martha Loughlin Walsh and was graduated from SS. Peter and Paul Academy in 1933. He was employed at the A & P Store and Grand Valley Brewery Co. in Ionia and later worked as yard master for the Grand Trunk Western Railroad Co. for 44 years before retiring in 1982. He served as treasurer in the Brotherhood of Yardmasters and was a member of Knights of Columbus, Council No. 998. He was married to Maxine Matthews in November 1939; she preceded him in death. He was married to Albina Cwik in 1970; she survives. Also surviving are a daughter Janice Hohert, and Michael Walsh, four grandchildren, a sister, Aileen Walsh of Ionia. A son, Lawrence M., preceded him in death, as did a brother, Edward L. Walsh, of Syracuse, N.Y. Funeral mass was held at the VenHayden Funeral Home, Detroit, July 3, at 8 p.m. Burial will be in Crystal Falls Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials were established for the Hospice for friends and families of those with Alzheimer’s Disease or to a charity of choice.
