March 16, 1939 David Fremont Walter, pioneer resident of Ionia county, died in Blodgett Hospital, Grand Rapids at eight o’clock Thursday morning, March 16. He had been ill of flu and pneumonia for the past two weeks. Mr. Walter was born in Hancock county, O., November 25, 1862, the son of George and Hannah Walter. He was the youngest of a family of seven boys and two girls. When he was three years old the family came to Ionia county and settled on a farm near Morrison Lake. Mr. Walter continued to own the farm and spent the summer months there each year, although he had purchased a home in Saranac and lived there since 1928. On November 3, 1886, he was united in marriage with Miss Eva Lane of Saranac, who with their four daughters and one son survives him. The daughters are Mrs. Florence Rehorn, Medina, New York, Mrs. Ida Greenhoe, Grand Rapids; Mrs. Blanche Miller, Ionia and Mrs. Cassie Good of Clarksville and the won, Homer Walter, of Saranac. He also leaves one brother, Hamilton Walter of Saranac.
