Ionia Sentinel-Standard – Tues. Nov. 3, 2009

Doris M. Walter, beloved mother, aged 89, went to be with her Lord, on Oct. 30, 
2009 at Fountain View of Lowell, where she has lived since December of 2005.

Doris was born Aug. 25, 1920 to Roy and Ruth Kimble of Saranac. The beautiful 
quilts Doris pieced together with love have blessed many family members and 
friends. One of her quilts is as far away as Switzerland. An even greater 
legacy Doris leaves behind are her six children Pat (Larry) Wittenbach of Iron 
Mountain, Donna (Bill) Newell of Saranac, Jackie (Fran) Borup of Saranac, Dan 
(Blanche) Hale of Saranac, Bev (John) Thome of Kalamazoo, Nancy (Jay) 
Offenbacher of Saranac; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-
great-grandchild. Just as the different patterns of fabrics were sewn together 
for her quilts, Doris leaves beauty through her family. Also surviving is one 
brother Norman Kimble of Ionia.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leon Walter, and brothers, Clifford 
and Donald Kimble. She will be greatly missed by her loving family.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 2, 2009 at Saranac Community Church 
with Rev. John Madvig officiating. Interment Saranac Cemetery. Arrangements by 
Lake Funeral Home of Saranac. Anyone wishing may make memorial contributions in 
Doris’s name to American Diabetes or Spectrum health Hospice. Online
