All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Pat Currigan currigan1932@comcast.net May 17, 2020, 10:11 am Lake Odessa Wave-Feb. 29, 1924 Andrew Armstrong Walter was born May 11th, 1842, at Hancock county, Ohio, and died at the home of his son and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Walter, 1802 Colorado Ave., Grand Rapids, Mich., Feb. 7th 1924, being in his 76th year. Mr. Walter was a second son of a family of eleven children of which all are living except one sister, Lydia Wight who died about one year ago in New Mexico. The living are Geo. Walter and Jane Tasker of Lake Odessa; Salome Post, Melissa Sweiger, Eva Richardson, Eunice Merrill, Alonzo and Henry Walter all of Clarksville, and one sister, Mrs. Eliza Mock of Barryton, Mich. At the age of 16 he enlisted in Co. A, 126 reg. O.V.I. at Lima, Ohio, and served 13 months, or until the close of the Civil War. Soon after the was he moved with his parents to Michigan on a farm near Clarksville. In April, 1870, he was married to Mary E. Barkdull, when he started a home of his own in the woods in northwest Odessa, where he lived until a few years ago when he moved to lake Odessa. To this union was born one son and one daughter, Wilbur of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Florence Alden of Lansing. He was a staunch Republican all his life and served his township as Justice of the Peace for 35 years. He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife and two children, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three brothers six sisters and a score of other friends and neighbors, in fact all that knew him.
