Walter, 85, of route 1, Saranac, died Thursday evening at Ionia County Memorial hospital following an illness of eight weeks. She was born May 7, 1883 at Maple Rapids, the daughter of Albert and Fannie Keyes Chadwick. August 1, 1906 she was married in Saranac to Fred C. Walter who preceded her in death, November 15, 1951. A graduate of Saranac high school, she also attended University of Chicago and taught, before her marriage, at Berlin Center school and the primary grades in Saranac. In 1942 she resumed her teaching at Berlin Center, Boston Center, Oak Grove and Sage schools, retiring in 1951. Active in several organizations she was a member of the First Presbyterian church, the Women’s association and Martha circle of the church, Ionia Women’s Literary club, Ionia Garden club, and Ionia Senior Citizens. She leaves a son Bruce C. Walter of Lowell and a daughter Mrs. Harry Myers, with whom she made her home the past few years; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Myers funeral home. Rev. Robert McComb will officiate and burial will be at Saranac cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Presbyterian church.
