Walton, 82, 117 S. Jackson St., died in the Ionia County Memorial Hospital at 3:15 Sunday morning, December 18. He had been failing in health for the past two years, but had been a patient in the hospital about a week. Mr. Walton was born in New York State, April, 1873, and came to Michigan as a young boy. A baker by trade he opened a bakery in Middleville in 1900, remained there until 1906 when he went to Albion and operated a bakery there until 1922. He then went to Tecumseh, where he remained in his chosen trade for a year. At the end of a year there he went to Ohio and was in business there for fifteen years, until 1938. At that time he came to Ionia and opened the Walton Pastry Shop, which he sold in 1945 and retired. In 1901 he was married to Katherine Coykendall at Middleville and they celebrated their golden wedding in Ionia in 1951. He was a member of the First Methodist Church, Ionia. Surviving besides his wife, Katherine, are four children, a daughter, Mrs. Wayne Winans, Piqua, Ohio; three sons, Charles, of Piqua, Burr of Mt. Pleasant, and Max of Cadillac, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Rev. Heath Goodwin officiated at the funeral service, held from Boynton’s Tuesday morning, and burial was in the family lot at Piqua, Ohio.
