Robert C. Wandel, age 71, of Ionia, passed away Sept. 20, 2008.

He was born Aug. 29, 1937 in Lyons, Mich., the son of Elba and Mary (Lee) 
Wandel. Robert married Judith Hamblin July 18, 1959. He worked at L&D Hardware 
for 30 years and at MTU in maintenance and later as a locksmith until his 
retirement in 2000. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cutting wood, 
snowplowing, processing deer and the casino. He also loved to farm especially 
bailing hay.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Judith Wandel of Ionia; sons, 
Dan (Debra) Wandel of Ionia and John Wandel of Ionia; brothers, Ted Wandel of 
Ionia and Dale (Linda)Wandel of Ionia; sisters, Dorothy (Tom) Eckley of Muir, 
Eudora Ludwick of Ionia and Betty (Al) Keefer of Arkansas; sister-in-law, 
Frances Wandell of Muir; grandchildren Jenny (Carlos) Benavidez, Jamie (Raul) 
Valasco, Jordan Wandel, Jessica Wandel, Tiffany (Craig) Melvin, Stacy (Jerry) 
Whitney and Kristina (Vince) Rosso; and great-grandchildren, Katelynne, Jake, 
Brianna and Baylee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Leslie and Alfred.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m. at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia 
with Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. The family will receive friends and 
relatives Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Anyone wishing to make a 
memorial donation in Robert’s name to Ionia County Memorial Hospital Oncology
