The funeral service of Frank E. Ward, held at the home on East Washington St., 
Tuesday afternoon, was largely attended and the general sympathy for the 
family was manifest by the extraordinary number and beauty of the floral 
testimonials.  The service by Rev. Mendenhall, who as chaplain at the Ionia 
State Reformatory had been for many years an associate officer of deceased, 
was according to the impressive ritual of the Episcopal Church.  The singing 
was by the Ionia male quartet – Dr. L. W. Yates, Dr. C. G. Winchell, Thane 
Benedict and G. Lee Yates.  The Elks’ ritual at the grave, in which about 25 
were present to take part, made a fitting close to the impressive service.  
The bearers were:  A. J. Hemingway, A. R. Locke, Fred Cutler, Jr., Ira. L. 
Cotton, K. R. Smith, Jr., and Fred A. Stiven.  Those attending from out of the 
city were:  Mr. and Mrs. Price, Mr. and Mrs. John Mahaney, and Edw. Mahaney of 
Lansing, Mr. and Mrs. Giles Crandall and Miss Addie Crandall of Muir.
