Sheldon’s injuries proved fatal, as he died a few hours later in St. Lawrence hospital, Lansing. The boys, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Arzo Ward, who live on the L. W. Gibb & Son farm, in Orange, were on their way home from the village. Deputy Jay Clark, who investigated, said that a car driven by Howard Riley, of Muskegon, also headed west, struck the bike as the driver swung back into he traffic lane after having passed a car. It was said the boys were riding in the west bound traffic lane, and that there was no light on their bicycle. Both lads were removed to the hospital in the Neller ambulance. Richard was not severely injured. The first auto fatality of 1941 occurred several weeks ago near the county airport, when a resident of Berlin township was fatally injured. Surviving Sheldon are the parents; three brothers, Richard, Walter and Harry J.; grandmother, Mrs. George Steward, of Portland; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Duchene, of Lansing. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Neller Funeral home, in charge of Rev. Robert Reynhout, of Portland Baptist church. Bearers were Thomas Vandeveene, Burdett Goodwin, Burnard Goodwin, Alton Hartwick.
