Ionia Sentinel Standard - June 28, 2011


Shirley I. Ward, 70. Of Ionia formerly of Saranac passed away June 26, 2011 in 
Grand Rapids. She was born July 17, 1940 in Hart, Michigan the daughter of Emil 
and Alice (Swift) Wahl.

She married Duane Ward June 16, 1961 in Saranac. Shirley loved to read, dance 
and exercise. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years Duane Ward of Ionia. 
Children: Deb (Noel) Carrasquillo of Texas, Tim (Gretchen) Ward of Saranac. 
Grandchildren Josh Carrasquillo, Jennifer McKinch, Tyler Ward, Sam Ward and 
Drew Ward. Sister Inez Lursema of Nashville, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services for Shirley will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Saranac 
Community Church with Pastor Jeff Kahl. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 
p.m. Wednesday at the Lake Funeral Home in Saranac.
