Ward, 76, died Saturday at Ionia Memorial hospital shortly after being admitted. Born in Kanooke township of St. Clair county, Sept. 10, 1899, he was the son of Solon and Elizabeth Marks Ward and lived in Sunfield and Lansing before moving to Lake Odessa in 1949. He was a self-employed well driller, and a former employee at Ionia state hospital until he retired in 1963. Survivors include his wife, the former Bonnie Kirby, whom he married Sept. 11, 1948; two sons, Raymond of Lake Odessa and Eldon of Essexville; five daughters, Sue Ann at home; Mrs. Audrey Markham of Essexville, Mrs. Delores Hough of Grand Ledge, Mrs. Helen Jencks of Mackinaw City, Mrs. Mary Dunn of Holt; a stepson Edward Comer of Lake Odessa, two step-daughters, Mrs. Sandy Postma of Kentwood and Mrs. Bonnie Lou Miller of Montague; 29 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Laura Cobentz of Boyne City and Hilda Ward of Midland. Services will be at Pickens-Koops funeral chapel at 3 p.m. Tuesday, the Rev. Gary Evans of the Congregational church officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery. Memorial contributions may be left at the funeral chapel.
