Jerry was born on February 6, 1940 in Belding to Ben “Frank” and Ruby Eldridge Ward. At age 8 the family moved to Weidman. He attended school in Weidman, graduating in 1959. Returning to Belding, he married Grace Barr and had two sons, Gerald “Jerry” and Donald, who survive him. He went to work for Wolverine World Wide in Rockford in 1961 and worked there until his retirement in 2002. He served his country in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966, serving in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966. He later married Carroll A. Bunce and they had three children, Sandra and Darin Dahl of Ionia, Terry Ward of Lowell, Paula and Roger Munn of Sparta; who survive Jerry. He loved to hunt, fish, bowl, golf, hunt for mushrooms and watch sports on television. Active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, he served as quartermaster, commander, bingo chairman and trustee for many years. He had also served in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard for a short time and was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Belding. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Kate Shindorf, Evelyn Williams, Mable Bunce, Geraldine Smith; his brother, Ken Douglas; his grandson, Michael Bartolo. Jerry is also survived by his brothers, Harold Douglas of Sears, Jerry and Lisa Douglas of Rapids City, S.D.; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Howard Hoag of Midland; his cousins, Jim Eldridge of Belding, Otto Peterman of Remus; many other cousins, nieces, nephews and eight grandchildren. Funeral and committal services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding, with Pastor Mark Jurgensen of Holy Cross Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Memorial contributions may be given to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
