Ward, 56, was fatally injured at three o'clock Saturday afternoon when his car overturned on M-36, at the curve in front of the Lester Hodgson farm. He was taken to the Mason General hospital but lived only about 10 minutes after being admitted. His skull was fractured, probably when he was thrown from the car to the pavement. Ward lived in Dansville. He was driving toward Mason. The curve is at the foot of a long hill. As Ward's car reached the curve it skidded off the pavement, at the north side. The driver apparently lost control. Tracks show that the car continued on, skidding west down the road for several rods. Then the car rolled over, throwing the driver to the blacktop. Born on an Ionia county farm, July 5, 1891, Ward was one of a family of five born to William and Anna Ward. On August 19, 1915, he married Goldie White of Ionia. They had six children, four of whom survive. Mr. and Mrs. Ward lived in Ionia until 1930 when they came to Mason. Later the family moved to Ingham township and three years ago to the village of Dansville. Ward was employed at the Atlas Drop Forge in Lansing. Besides the widow he is survived by the four children, James of Mason, Mrs. Loraine Simison of Dansville, Mrs. Dorothy Hinkle of Duck lake, and William of Dansville:; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Gustafson of Ionia and Mrs. Bernice Erdman of Milwaukee and Mrs. Bernice Erdman of Milwaukee, and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Vogt funeral home in Dansville Tuesday afternoon. Rev. E.H. Kincaid of the Dansville Free Methodist church officiated, with burial in Easton cemetery, Ionia county.
