DUANE ELLIS WARD 1938-2016
Duane Ellis ward, age 78 of Ionia, Formerly of Saranac, passed away June 22, 
2016. He was born Feb. 17, 1938 in Stanton, Michigan the son of Samuel and Ella 
(Barger) Ward.

Duane graduated from Saranac High School, Class of 1956. He married Shirley Wahl 
on June 16, 1961. She passed away on June 26, 2011. Duane was a member of Ionia 
Moose Lodge and Saranac American Legion for 50 years. He loved to dance, play 
cards, listen to music and watch his grandkids play ball.

Duane is survived by his children, Deb (Noel) Carrasquillo of Texas, and Tim 
(Gretchen) Ward of Saranac, Michigan; grandchildren, Josh (Courtney) 
Carrasquillo, Jennifer McKinch, Tyler Ward, Sam Ward, Drew Ward; and sister, 
Daryl (Robert) Keech of Stanton, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley, brother Dale Ward and 
sister Donna Holmes.

Funeral services for Duane will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday, June 25, at Saranac 
Community Church with Pastor Becky Poor officiating. Visitation s will be Friday 
from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at lake Funeral Home in Saranac. Memorial Contributions 
may be made to Trillium Woods or Ionia commission on Aging. Online condolences
