Ionia Sentinel - Thursday, Jan. 11, 1894

Russell Ward died Wednesday at 5 o'clock at the Bailey house, at the age of 57 
years. The funeral will be held next Friday from the M. E. church, at 1:30 o'clock 
in the afternoon, under the auspices of the Knights of Pythias. His friends in 
Massachusetts have been notified.

Russell Ward was the youngest of eleven children of Mr. and Mrs. Avery Ward, and was

born in Sutton, Mass., Nov. 24, 1836. He was for 14 years connected with the firm of

C. H. Fargo & Co. of Chicago, and originally came to this city as an employee of 
that firm, when it entered into the shoe contract at the S.H. of C. He was employed

as cutter.

When that firm moved to Jackson Mr. Ward remained in Ionia and engaged in the book 
and stationary business, which he successfully conducted up to three years ago, when

his health failed him. Since that time he has been a great but patient sufferer, 
having every few weeks had a slight attack of paralysis.

During his long and painful illness, he has been at the Bailey house, where he has 
been tenderly cared for by the Messrs. Bailey, and every kindness Bailey, and every

kindness possible has been shown him by them and his many friends, for which he 
always express his gratitude.

He was a member of Lucullus lodge, No. 76, K. of P., and also a member of the 
uniform rank of the same society, a member of Ionia lodge, No. 36, F. & A. M., and 
of Wm. H. Borden post, No. 211, G. A. R.
