Ward, 85, long time resident of Belding and vicinity were held Tuesday afternoon. Interment was in the Mausoleum where he will lie until spring when he will be buried at Ashley cemetery. Mr. Ward died last Sunday after an illness of six weeks though he had long been feeble. He was born in Morristown, St. Lawrence County, New York State in 1850, coming to Michigan when he was about six years of age. Since that time he has resided almost continuously in the vicinity of Belding. For many years he followed the trade of blacksmith, later becoming active as a live stock buyer. Mr. Ward was a Civil War veteran and a survivor of Sherman’s March to the Sea. He enlisted in the 1st Engineers and Mechanics at Grand Rapids and served a long period in the war. He was a member of no organizations. He is survived by one son, Silas of Belding.
