Nov. 22, 1937 DEATH TAKES MRS. WARDLE Daughter of Well-Known Business Man to Be Buried Tuesday. The death of Mrs. Clarence B. Wardle, 77, occurred Sunday evening about 7 o’clock at her home 314 Lafayette street. Mrs. Wardle has been critically ill for two weeks, and seriously ill for several months. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the home with Rev. Earl Kneebone, rector of St. John’s Episcopal church officiating. Surviving Mrs. Wardle are the husband; two daughters, Mrs. R. E. Shanahan of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Harold S. Bradley of Chicago; a grandson, Charles Bradley; one sister, Mrs. Percy Edsall of Greenville, and one brother, L. G. Townsend of Libby, Montana. Mrs. Wardle was born in Ionia, August 1, 1860, the daughter of Larmon B. Townsend, who came to Ionia in the 1850’s as a contractor for the Grand Trunk railroad, and Mrs. Townsend. She has resided here all her life. She attended the Ionia Schools and was graduated from the Ionia high school, later attending school in the east. She has always been prominent in social circles, energetic in the activities of Ionia women’s clubs, and organizations engaged in charitable enterprises. Mrs. Wardle was a member of St. John’s Episcopal church. She was also a past president of the Women’s Literary club. She was married to Clarence B. Wardle, September 1, 1926, and they have traveled widely. They traveled around the world in 1927 and in 1936, including a long trip in South Africa. In 1930 they spent three months in China and Japan, and the following years were in South America for three months. Their tour in 11927 included tours of Spain, London and France, and they have visited Alaska. Several trips have been made to California. Ionia Sentinel-Standard – Wed. Nov. 24, 1937 Mrs. C. B. Wardle Funeral services for Mrs. Clarence B. Wardle, 77, 314 Lafayette street, who died at her home Sunday evening at 7 o’clock, were held Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Earl Kneebone, rector of St. John’s Episcopal church, of which Mrs. Wardle was a member, officiated at the 2:30 o’clock service. Mrs. Fred W. Green and Mrs. Thomas a. Buck were in charge of the flowers. Bearers were Thane Benedict, Henry F. Voelker, G. Lee Yates, Fred T. Mason, K. R. Smith and Montgomery Webster. Among those attending the services from away were Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Shanahan, Mrs. Ralph Widoes, and Mrs. Hugo Kutche of Grand Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Harold S. Bradley and son of Evanston, Illinois; Mrs. Percy D. Edsall, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Edsall, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Edsall, W. H. Brown, Charles Miller and Ellis Ranney of Greenville; Eugene Wardle, Miss Jessie Wardle, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Keys, Mr. & Mrs. C. D. Wardle, Mrs. Paul Borgman, Miss Anne Borgman, and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Waldron of Detroit. Interment was at Highland Park Cemetery. Additional Comments: Mrs. Clarence B.
