Wardle Passed Away at 2 o'clock Saturday Morning - Funeral Monday The community received with sadness the news of the death of Mrs. Cornelia J. Wardle, age 66, who passed away at 2 o'clock Saturday morning, at her home, 332 East Washington street. She had been ill for a month past. Death, which was due to capillary bronchitis, was peaceful and she was conscious until the late. The maiden name of deceased was Cornelia J. Besher. She was born in the city of New York, Oct. 12, 1834. In 1852 she was married in New York to George L. Wardle, who died on Long Island (the home of the family for many years) in 1888. His death was the direct result of the great blizzard of that year at which time he contracted and succumbed to pneumonia. Two years later Mrs. Wardle came with her family to Ionia and for 10 years her many friends learned to love and esteem her, and know her to be a good, kind, Christian woman. She was a devoted member of the Presbyterian church. A sad chapter of the family history, and one that brought sorrow to the community, was the death of two daughters of deceased, Florence I. and Nellie B., Wardle, in 1894 and 1895. The surviving members of the family are four sons and one daughter - Clarence B. Wardle, Eugene B. Wardle and Jessie E. Wardle, of this city; George L. Wardle, of Long Island and H.M. Wardle, of Detroit. They have the tender sympathy of the community in their bereavement. The funeral services were attended from the family home at 2 o'clock on Monday afternoon. The officiating clergyman was Rev. W.H. Thomas, D.D., rector of St. Johns Episcopal church. Dr. Thomas was ordained on Long Island in the church attended by the Wardle family 30 years ago. The remains were laid to rest beside the two daughters in Highland Park cemetery, where they were carried by John F. Bible, M.M. McGeary, A.E. Cottingham and Eldon Pl Mains as bearers.
