STROKE FATAL TO CHARLES W. WARING

Had Been School Superintendent, Editor and Village Official

Charles W. Waring, a native of Sebewa township, suffered a stroke of paralysis 
early Friday night and died Saturday. Mr. Waring’s death followed the last of a 
number of light stroke that kept him indoors several months, and was not 
unexpected.

He was born in Sebewa Township, November 21, 1867, educated in the rural 
schools and Alma college. He taught in various communities and then became 
superintendent of schools in Grand Ledge. Retiring from this position he bought 
the Grand Ledge Times, continuing as editor and publisher until he went to Me. 
Clemens as secretary of the board of Commerce, remaining there until 1926, when 
he located in Portland. His wife, whom he married in 1889, and who survives 
him, was a daughter of the late Henry G. Stevens, pioneer of Portland and the 
couple have resided in the spacious family home there since. There are no 
children and no surviving brothers or sisters. 

Mr. Waring was an uncle of Russell Waring of this village, was a close friend 
of the late Russell Goodemoot and did some work as The Wave-Times a few years 
ago, as advertising agent and copy writer.

He was a prominent citizen of Portland, managing their big homecoming a few 
years ago. He was alwo an official member of the Congregational church of 
Portland.

The funeral was held at the home Monday afternoon and burial was in Portland 
cemetery.
