He was born Dec. 12, 1941, in Grand Rapids, the son of Howard and Alta Marvin Warner. The family moved to Belding in 1944. Bob attended Cooley School and Belding Public Schools, where he played on the junior varsity football team. He was a carpenter in Cedar Springs for several years before moving to Maine in 1973. He continued his carpentry work, owned and operated a trucking business and worked for the Sanford Public Schools. Bob was a member of AA and was instrumental in starting the Sanford Chit Chat club. He loved to play cards, golf, bowl, hunt, fish and dance. Family members say he had a wonderful sense of humor and was a friend to all. His life was a testament to the phrase, “The greatness of a man can always be measured by his willingness to be kind.” He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sandra Brooks Cousins Warner; seven sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Shelly of Owosso, Thomas and Michelle of Sanford, Maine, Timothy and Joyce of Michigamme, Adam of Hannibal, Mo., Michael of Springvale, Maine, Douglas Edwards of Belding, Bryan and Elizabeth Edwards of Greenville; one daughter, Rosemarie Bess of Champion; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his mother, Alta Burke of Belding; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Marjorie and Martin Gibson of Belding, Virginia and Russell Vawter of Woodville, Dorothy Martin of Cadillac, Joan Kopf of York, Pa.; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Robert “Big Bob” Warner of Belding, James and Donna Longhurst of Rockford; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father in 1942; his stepfathers, Delmer Warner Sr. in 1965 and Levi Burke in 1990; his brothers, Michael in 1993, Richard in 2000, Delmer Jr. in 2001; and one son, Mark in 1986. Funeral services were Aug. 28 in Sanford, Maine. Interment was in Oakdale Cemetery, Sanford. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Bob’s family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alvah N. Belding Library.
