July 22, 2013 GREENVILLE- Richard L. Warner, 72, of Gowen, formerly of Belding, passed away Friday, July 19, 2013, at Spectrum Health United Hospital in Greenville. The son of James E. and Irene C. (Tuckerman) Warner, he was born on Dec. 16, 1940, in Adrian. He received a bachelor's degree in business from Stautzenberer College. From there he worked for several trucking firms. On July 21, 1962, in Toledo, Ohio, he married Sherrie L. Goodremont and together they raised three daughters and enjoyed nearly 51 years of marriage. For several years, Richard worked for his father-in-law at Goodremont Business Machines, selling office equipment in the Toledo area, until relocating to Belding in 1976 to join his father and brother at Warner & Sons Trucking, where he served as president until the sale of Warner Transportation in 1999. In his retirement years, Richard owned The Links at Bowen Lake, where he and Sherrie made their home, in addition to keeping his hand in the transportation business as owner of R&S Rentals. Besides his family and business, Richard was also passionate about politics and had served on the Belding City Council, as well as being an avid bowler and golfer. he was preceded in death by his father, James "Jim" E. Warner. Surviving are his mother, Irene Warner of Adrian; his wife, Sherrie Warner of Gowen; their three daughters, Shellie Medema of Belding, Jenelle and Jim Bumgardner of Cary, N.C., and Nicole and Gene First of Belding; two brothers and a sister, R. Gayle and Donna Warner of Belding, Marcia Doty of Holt, and Gary Warner of Ohio; nine grandchildren, Christopher Vlahas, Edward Mason, Kyle Bumgardner, Aaron Bumgardner, Jalesa Manshum, Terra Christensen, and Tyler Christensen; seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Honoring Richard's wishes, cremation will take place and private services will be held at a later date. Instead of flowers, Richard would have appreciated contributions in his memory to the Alvah N.
