Darby received a letter from Mr. and Mrs. James Middaugh of Halton, Wash., announcing the death of their son-in-law, Will Warner, from injuries received by being trampled upon by horses. According to the letter Warner was drawing straw in company with another man. They each had a team and drove to the stack leaving them so that they stood headed towards each other. While pitching the straw, Warner threw a forkful in front of the horses for them to eat but which frightened one of the teams and they started to run around the stack headed for the other team. Warner jumped from the stack and caught the team which contained four horses but was unable to stop them and was thrown down and trampled upon, one of the horses stepping on his stomach. He was promptly cared for and the best medical aid possible was secured but nothing could be done for him and after enduring terrible suffering from Thursday noon until Friday night he passed away. Wilber Warner lived in this vicinity for many years and a few years ago he was married to Alice Middaugh also living here. Last spring they went to Washington and were building a home. He was a young man of goods habits and was held in high esteem by his associates. He leaves a wife and two small children. He was a member of the Woodman lodge at Lowell and carried an insurance of $2,000.
