The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Monday, August 23, 1937

William F. Warnke, 79 years of age, died at the Ionia hospital early Sunday 
morning after an illness of the past week, caused from an internal injury 
received when he was mowing the lawn one day and fell against the mower 
handle.  He was taken to the hospital and an emergency operation performed.

He was born at Salow, Germany, January 5, 1858 and was married October 12, 
1883 to Augusta Bielow at her home in Stretenswee, Pomerin, Germany.  They 
left two weeks after their marriage for America for a wedding trip and 
remained here, taking up residence on North Jackson street, Ionia.  Two years 
later they built their present home on North Jackson street where Mrs. Warnke 
and three of the children live.

He was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran church on North Jefferson street, 
and also of the LBM.  For nearly 50 years he worked as a railroad carpenter at 
the Pere Marquette shops here until they were moved to Saginaw.

Mr. and Mrs. Warnke celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1933 at 
their home.

Survivors are his wife Augusta, three sons, Carl of Wawatose, Wis., William of 
Saginaw, and Alfred at home, and two daughters, Elizabeth and Selma, both at 
home.

The remains will be at the home after noon Monday until the prayer services 
held there at 2:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon.  Funeral services will be held 
from the church at 3 o’clock Tuesday with Rev. R. A. Rook officiating and 
burial at Highland Park cemetery.  The casket will not be open at the church.
