February 19, 1953 Rites Today for Sidney Washburn F.Sidney Washburn was taken to Greenville Hospital by ambulance about two weeks ago suffering from a heart attack and early Tuesday morning he passed away. He was 62 years of age, the son of Frederick A. and Ella Wood Washburn. His parents came to this city in the late 1880 as pioneers in manufacturing in western Michigan, his father being general manager of the Richardson Silk Co., holding that position until his death. F.Sidney Washburn was born in this city March 18, 1890. He graduated from the Belding High School in 1908 and attended the U.of M. he married Miss Eula Grace, June 28, 1933 and they had lived in Detroit and Clinton until about a year ago when they moved back tot he old home on Hanover street. He was connected with the Ford Motor Plant at Manchester. Although he had lived away from here during these years he always kept an active interest in the affairs of the city. When World war I broke out he was the first man from the city to enlist and left for France with the first naval unit to leave Grand Rapids, serving until the end of the war. He is survived by his wife, Eula, two brother, Carlton w. of East Orange,NJ. and Harold O. of St.Paul, Minn., and one sister, Miss Florence Washburn of this city. Funeral services will be held today, Thursday at 2 o'clock at Fitzjohn Funeral Home with Rev. H.B. Johnson, pastor of the Congregational Church of which he was a member, officiating at the service. Interment will be in River Ridge Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Roy Ranney, Harry Tuttle, John Stahlin, John Cooper, Richard Wagner and William Davis.
