Emma Lucy Cornell, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Hiram Cornell, was born on a farm in Ionia township, November 26, 1846, and was 86 years old at the time of her death. With the exception of short periods spent away, she lived her entire life in Ionia county. When she was 14 years old she was baptized by Rev. Isaac Errett, pastor of the Church of Christ at Prairie Creek. Her marriage to Chauncey Waterbury occurred when she was 19 years of age, and shortly after this both she and her husband joined the Baptist church, of which she has been a faithful member for more than 60 years. Mr. Waterbury, who died several years ago, was a former secretary of the People’s Mutual Fire Insurance company and had entire supervision of the constriction of the Ionia County Court house. Mrs. Waterbury is survived by three sons, D. Jay Waterbury, of Ionia, M. G. and W. C. Waterbury, of Detroit and a daughter, Mrs. T. M. Brown of Ionia. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. F. J. Fitch, at the Stebbins Funeral home Saturday afternoon at two o’clock, with burial in Highland Park cemetery.
