The Belding Banner-News, Wednesday, January 13, 1926


Luella Witt was born near Belding Michigan, August 16th, 1859 and died January 
4th, 1926 therefore was 66 years, 4 months and 18 days old.  She was married to 
Frank Waterman, September 5, 1885.  To this union three children were born, 
Mrs. Abbie Boyer of DesMoines, Iowa; Mrs. Marc Conner, of Bass Lake, Indiana 
and Alton Waterman, of Grand Rapids.  She also leaves one grandson, Richard 
Boyer, a brother, William Witt, of Saranac, Michigan and a sister, Mrs. Ed. 
Brown, of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

She united with the Methodist church when she was 18 years old and remained an 
active member until the year of 1910 when she withdrew from that organization 
and joined the International Bible Students Association of which she was a 
devoted member until the time of her death.  Patience, forbearance and the 
welfare of others were marked traits in her life and during her long months of 
suffering not a murmur of complaint did she utter, but a happy smile and 
cheerful greeting welcomed all.  During her most intense suffering she would 
often say “God has been good to me.  He will never leave or forsake me and I 
must bear patiently until he says it is enough.”  Of a modest, retiring nature, 
not given to many words; yet we are persuaded that the blessed influence of her 
life will live on and bear fruit.  

Brief services were held at the Clarence D. Sullivan funeral home January 7 at 
10 a.m. in Grand Rapids, after which the body was brought to Belding and the 
remains laid to rest beside those of her husband in River Ridge cemetery.
