Portland Advertiser - Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1868

In this village, on the 4th inst., of Typhoid Fever, Mrs. C. J. Waterman, aged 43 
years.

The untimely death of Mr. Waterman has produced a feeling of profound sorrow among 
our citizens generally. An active, and the most prominent members of the firm of C.

J.  Waterman & Co., proprietors of the Woolen Factory, and from his intimate 
knowledge of the business, having the absolute control of the works, his demise 
produces a vacancy which will be hard to fill. The deceased had formerly resided at

Lyons, and removed to this village last spring, since which time he had been engaged

in superintending the erection of the Woolen Factory, and the arrangement of the 
machinery. Just as the Factory had commenced manufacturing, he was attack with 
fever, and from the first appears to have anticipated the sad result.

Of a quiet and unostentacious turn of mind, he never intruded his opinions unasked,

but when given, they were received with the greatest deference and respect. His 
remains were taken to Bowne Centre, for interment. The more public services were 
held on last Sunday afternoon, at the Universalist Church, and a sermon preached by

the Rev. J. C. Sawyer.

   County of Ionia ss, At a session of the Probate Court for the County of Ionia, 
held at the Probate Office in each County, on Saturday, the seventh day of November,

in the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight. Present - W. B. WELLS, Judge

of Probate.
   In the matter of the estate of Calvin J. Waterman, deceased.
   On reading and filing the petition duly verified of Dorcas Waterman, Widow of 
said deceased praying that Letters of administration upon said Estate may be granted

to Almeron Newman of Portland.
