The funeral services were held at the Baptist church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. E.E. Branch of Ionia, delivered the sermon. Interment was made in the family lot in the Lyons cemetery. The deceased was born at Hadly, Mich., May 2nd, 1853, being just past her 64th year at the time of her demise. In 1874 she was united in marriage to Martin Travis, residing the greater portion of their time in this village until his death, which occurred in 1887. In 1900 she was united in marriage to Rev. W.R. Waters, pastor of the Pewamo Baptist church at that time and practically until the time of his death, which took place in 1908. Since that time she has made her home here and with her foster daughters at Goodrich and Flint. She leaves to mourn her demise, one brother, George Burts of Detroit, and five foster daughters and two sons. Mrs. Waters was of that type of Christian character that we love to witness. Through all the trials and tribulations of this life through which she passed, (and they were many,) her faith in a Supreme Being was as a beacon light on the storm bound shores, a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. Practically all of her years were spent in serving His cause, and no matter how discouraging the way, how much the storms of life might beat down, she was ever faithful at her post, an inspiration to a better life for everyone she met. She was indeed the true Christian and we know she has now been received into that reward she so richly deserved – to that crown that will glisten with eternal splendor through all the ages of time.
