Oct. 15, 1915 GRIM REAPER AGAIN INVADES OUR MIDST. Death not infrequently invades our community, leaving sorrow in its wake; and especially was this true when it became known last Friday that Vernon C. Watkins had passed away the evening before at his home in this village. He had been off duty from his services as mail carrier from the local postoffice for about two months, but up to within a week of his death, did not complain of any serious illness. On the Sunday morning previous to his death he was taken very ill, but was confined to his bed only a few hours when he seemed to have recovered his usual health. Neither the family or physician considered his condition as being serious. He continued to be some what on the gain up til Thursday evening and even then it was hardly considered that the end was so near. At about 8:30 he started to make preparations for retiring, when, within the twinkling of an eye-summons came-and his soul returned to the palace from whence it came. The funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, the pastor, Rev. Thos. Laity officiating. The remains were laid to rest in lakeside cemetery. The funeral was largely attended, the church being packed. F. & A.M. and Eastern Star Fraternities and the G.A.R. attended in a body, the deceased having been a member of the first two for quite a number of years, and the last ever since its organization. T he first two named societies accompanied the body from the house to church and from there to the grave. At ht Church the Mason, under the direction of G. W. Crowley of Hastings, gave their beautiful ritualistic service and also performed the last rites at the grave. Those present from away on this sad occasion were Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Pfaff of Swanton, Ohio; Mrs. Lyman J. Smith of Toledo, Ohio; Mrs. Albert Curtis of Kinross, Michigan; Mr. Alfred Curtis of Dafter, Michigan; Mr. Wright G.
