ROSE WATKINS PASSES AWAY SUNDAY ----------- PIONEER OF STERLING WORTH LEAVES MANY RELATIVES AND FRIENDS ----------- Mrs. Rose Watkins, an earnest church, L.O.W.C., E.O.S., and W.C.T.U. worker, died Sunday after a lingering illness of several months. Mrs. Watkins has been a woman of exceptional ability, always fulfilling the work assigned her in a most creditable manner. Her advice was often sought, and her wisdom was greatly appreciated. She often gave words of praise, believing that some of the flowers should be given to the living. Her beautiful character will be a lesson to many who knew her. The funeral was held at the M. E. church Wednesday afternoon. The Eastern Star and the Woman's Christian Temperance Union attended in a body. The pastor, Rev. Thos. Laity, preached from a text selected by Mrs. Watkins---"She hath done what she could"---and a quartette consisting of Mrs. Howard Rising, Mr. A. J. Dann, Mr. Leon Gilson and Mrs. Stanley Dann, rendered appropriate music. The remains were laid at rest in Lakeside cemetery beside those of her husband. The Eastern Star gave their ritualistic ceremony, at the grave. Additional Comments: OBITUARY Eunice Rosalie Curtis, daughter of Truman and Mary Curtis, was born at Norwalk, Huron Co., Ohio, May 18, 1846, and died at her home at Lake Odessa, June 11, 1916. She was married to Vernon C. Watkins Dec. 24, 1866, at Swan Creek, Fulton Co., Ohio. In 1869 they moved to Michigan in Odessa township, where they resided until moving to Lake Odessa 22 years ago. To this union three children were born---Jennie E. Blanche L. and Truman Wells, who passed to the great beyond October 9, 1871, at the age of 11 months. She leaves to mourn their loss two daughters, three grandchildren, one sister, four brothers and other relatives and a host of friends. Mrs. Watkins were converted at the early age of 12 years and has lived a faithful and devoted Christian to the end, and showed plainly by patience and resignation through her long illness, her dependence upon God. Ever ready to cheer the sad, to lift up the fallen and to help the needy, her loss will be felt by a large circle of friends. None could know but to love her, or name her but to praise. "Severed the chains that have bound her to earth; Gone to the land where the soul has new birth. Where there are treasures of beauty untold, Rivers of silver and mountains of gold. Weep not to miss her from earth's weary shore; Earth has one angel less; Heaven one more." Those in attendance at the funeral from out of town were Alfred Curtis, a brother from Dafter; Myrtie Curtis, a niece from Kinross; Right Smith, a nephew and daughter, Rose, from Hudson; Frank Batdorff and Mrs. May Bywater of Grand Rapids; M2r. and Mrs. Kingman of Charlotte; and Mrs. Chan Martin and Mrs. Tuttle and two sons, all of Albion. CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our sincere gratitude to the friends and neighbors who assisted during the illness, death and burial of our beloved mother. We especially thank all who contributed floral tributes, and to the choir for the music. Wm. Kingman and family, E. Mildred Geddes, Blanch Holt and daughter, Christine.
