Ionia Sentinel, 2001

Gerald E. Watson, 85, of Belding passed away Sat., June 16, 2001 at United 
Memorial Health Center Long Term Care Unit in Greenville.

He was born on March 4, 1916 in Grand Rapids, the son of George and Agnes 
Neilsen Watson.  Gerald owned several businesses in Belding for over 29 years.  
He was a former member and past president of the Belding Area Chamber of 
Commerce, a member of the American Legion Post 203 in Belding and a member of 
Holy Cross Lutheran church.

He was married on Sept. 6, 1984 to Ruth Flanigan and she survives along with 
their children, Barton (Krista) Watson of Ada, Karl Watson of Staten Island, 
N.Y. and Terry Watson of Grand Rapids; stepchildren, Ellen (Mike) Bunting of 
Belding, James (Linda) Flanigan of Orleans, John (Mary Pat) Flanigan of Kent 
City; eight step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Thelma Watson and one 
stepson, Eldred “El” Flanigan.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, 
Belding with Pastor Jake Jacobsen of Holy Cross Lutheran Church officiating.  
Interment will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Visitation was Monday 
at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran 
Church Building Fund.
