The Ionia Standard, Friday, July 10, 1914


Eliza J. Cogswell was born at Grass Lake, Jackson county, Mich., September 30, 
1840.  She was united in marriage to Mr. T. J. Way at Jackson, Mich., going to 
Ohio for a short time, returning to Michigan. They have been residents of 
Ionia 31 years.  

To this union two children were born, Fred, who passed away two years ago, and 
Frank, who with the husband survives.  She also leaves three brothers, Eugene 
of Lansing, Martin and Luman Cogswell of Lowell.  

She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and a good neighbor.  She was 
especially fond of children and many little friends will miss her kindly 
interest in them.  The illness was a long and tedious one but she was very 
patient through it all and passed to her rest on Sunday evening at 7:15.

The funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon from the residence at 2 
o’clock, Rev. E. E. Branch officiating.  Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery.  
There was no singing.  The bearers were Ralph Cheney, Levi Marshall, Will 
Conner and W. C. Snell.

We wish to express our thanks to the neighbors and friends for their kindness 
and the sympathy shown us during the long illness and at the death of wife and 
mother.  Also for the many beautiful flowers.
