The Ionia Daily Standard, Monday, September 30, 1901

Mathew Weaver, the aged and well-known colored resident of East Front street, 
died at 9 o’clock on Sunday morning, and was buried from the late home this 
afternoon, interment being in Oak Hill.  Mr. and Mrs. Weaver were long years 
worshippers at the Baptist church, and very regular and devout attendants 
before the infirmities of age came upon them.  Rev. D. L. Martin of that 
church conducted the service.  The best information fixed the age of deceased 
at 88 years, although he maintained he was much older.
