Weaver (Reed), 78, of Ionia, passed away Friday, March 14, 2014, at Heartland's Health Care in Ionia to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., on June 9, 1935, to Wesley and Gertrude Reed. She later graduated from Union High School. She then met the love of her life, Thomas Weaver from Ionia, Mich. They later married in 1956 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and welcomed the birth of their first son, Martin in 1957 and later James in 1959. Soon it was time to move from the little house they had built for themselves on Nicholson Street to the hilltop house, where they welcomed Gregory in 1962, and Carrie in 1969. The extended family would come to associate the hilltop house with Christmases, and other family gatherings. In her youth, Arlene was a creative individual with a flair for flower arrangements. She was later active in Church and community activities. Arlene was characterized by her quick wit and sense of humor. Later in life she found great pleasure and delight with her nine grandchildren: Chad, Curt, Thomas, Ashley, Laura, Jaz'min, Jalen, Adam, and Josh; and her seven great-grandsons: Austin, Matthew, Chase, Tristan, Brayden, Riley, and Levi. Her house on Yeomans, which was lovingly decorated by her own hand over the years, was filled with a multitude of pictures of them all. Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Thomas; sons Martin (Randi), James (Tonetta), Gregory (Lori); and daughter, Carrie (Steve); sister Helene Wheeler, and brother Norman Reed of New Mexico; sisters-in-law Pat Miller and Edna Keeney; and many special nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by brothers Edward, Wayne, Herbert, Wesley, with sisters Lucille and Alta. A life celebration will be held on Thursday March 20, 2014 at 11 a.m., at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 434 High St., Ionia. Visitations will be held on Wednesday March 19, 2014, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich St., Ionia. A Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. on Wednesday. If you wish to make a memorial contribution please consider Ionia Area Hospice, P.O. Box 124, Ionia MI.
