Merle M. Weaver, 84, of Belding died Thursday morning June 21, 2007 at his 
home. He was born on April 5, 1923 in Knoxville, Iowa the son of Fred and Fern 
Collins Weaver. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War 
II. Merle later worked for many years in Ionia at the State Hospital for the 
Criminally Insane later Riverside Correctional

Facility as a corrections officer. Merle retired in 1988. He was a member and 
past Post Commander of the American Legion Post 203 of Belding. He enjoyed 
fixing things and doing crossword puzzles. 

He was married on August 24, 1950 in Belding to Leah McPherson and she 
survives along with their children, Anne and Leroy Lavallee of Sidney and Gary 
Wilson of Belding. Merle is also survived by three grandchildren, Derek, Holly 
and Kyle, sister and brother in law, Marge and Ed Barber of Newaygo and his 
brother in laws and sister in laws, Maynard and Gail McPherson of Buffalo 
Grove, IL, Gerald and Gloria McPherson of Greenville, Vernon and Herta 
McPherson of Grand Rapids, Geraldine and Bill Peterson of Arizona, and Roselyn 
and Harry Riddle of Cedar Springs. He was preceded by his parents and one 
brother Marion Weaver. 

Funeral and committal services will be 1p.m. Monday at Johnson-Feuerstein 
Funeral Home, Belding with Pastor Cliff Allen of Zion United Methodist Church 
of Ionia officiating. Private interment will be in River Ridge Cemetery. No 
visitation will take place. Memorials may be given to a charity of ones choice.
