Webber died at his farm home, one mile south of Lyons, Tuesday evening, November 5, at 6:30, aged 65 years, five months and eight days. He had been in poor health for the past two years, although he had been confined to the house for only about a month. His death was not unlooked for, yet was a distinct shock to the community. Deceased was born in New York State, and was the eldest son of Samuel W. and Marietta Webber. The parents came to Lyons when deceased was about five years of age. He attended school in Lyons, and later attended college at Olivet. After his education had been completed he was employed in the banks of his father in Lyons and Muir. September 7, 1872 he was united in marriage to Abbie Trefryin Lons, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Ransom of Muir. Following their marriage they went to reside on the farm south of the village where they lived for two and one-half years, when they moved to Fremont, this state, where he ran a bank for four years he then went to Dakota where he ran a bank for his father for six months and on returning to Michigan was employed in a bank at Carson City for two years. After this he returned to the farm home where he has since resided. Deceased had a large acquaintance throughout the country, and at one time was the democratic candidate for county treasurer. He was for a number of years a member of the Elk lodge at Ionia, and is still a member of the Masonic fraternity of this village. Before his health became so poor and suffering had left its impress upon him, he was one of the most jolly and pleasant of men to meet, and to know him was to appreciate his good nature and ready sympathy. He was a man who made friends readily and who retained such friendship. He was “Will” to all who knew him, and his passing leaves a vacant place in the community. He is survived by the widow and two sons, M.J. and D.J. Webber, both of Detroit. Funeral services of a private nature were held Thursday afternoon at the farm home, conducted by Rev. Geo. A. Brown of the M.E. church, and at the request of deceased all flowers were omitted. Vocal music was furnished by Mrs. George H. Steadman. The bearers were W. C. Hawley, H.A. Ranger, Paul Charles, Leo McQuillan and the two sons. Interment was in the Lyons cemetery. Another Publication: The Ionia Standard, Friday, November 15, 1918 Mr. and Mrs. Murdo Webber and daughter, Isma arrived in Lyons on Wednesday evening, from Detroit, to attend the funeral.
