Here Luella has grown from childhood into youth and was just emerging from youth into a beautiful womanhood. Here she has passed all these days, months and years in innocent childhood and happy school life. Nearly four weeks ago she was smitten by that dread scourge, typhoid fever, and during all the weary days and nights she has borne her suffering like a true heroine with no words of complaint, but with a joyful anticipation of speedily returning to her dear old school, her teachers, her young friends and best of all to her classmates whom she loved with a great love. Last Sunday evening, when to her faithful physician, every symptom seemed so auspicious and her rapid recovery so confidently expected, she was suddenly seized with heart failure and surely and swiftly was swept on by an irresistible force to the great unknown, and when dying, mistaking the approach of death for the return of rest, she sweetly said to heartbroken relatives, “I’m going to sleep,” and thus she still sleeps, that sweet and beautiful sleep that knows no waking this side of the grave.
