Wedderburn, 72, of Ionia, died early Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997 at his home. He was born March 8, 1924 in Lakeview, the son of Lawrence and Marguerite (Seat) Wedderburn and was educated in Lakeview Schools and graduated from Lyons High School. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942 during W.W. II, serving nearly four years and received the Purple Heart, the Victory Medals, the Asiatic, American, Philippine Liberation and several other medals. He also served in the Naval Reserve until 1955. He was a former member of Ionia V.F.W., where he served as Post Commander and Chaplain and presently was a member of the Saranac, V.F.W. He married the former Eleanor R. Bylsma Lillie on May 20, 1981 in Ionia. He had been employed in Automobile Body Repair as a welder and a painter for many years and lastly at Hough Bros. in Sunfield. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; his mother, Marguerite S. Crooks of Ionia; son Roger (Karen) Wedderburn of Belding; daughter, Pam (Richard) Westbrook of Oklahoma, 4 grandchildren; step-daughter, Dawn E. Shields of Ionia; 3 step- granddaughters; 2 great-grandchildren; brother, Jack (Grace) Wedderburn of Ionia; sister, Bonnie (Claire) Confer of Ionia; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father. Following his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service or visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Hospice or Ionia County Commission on Aging. Envelopes are available at the Cook Funeral Home in Ionia, where funeral arrangements have been made.
