Mrs. Almeda Weeks passed away last Thursday morning at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Reuben Bradish at Cook’s Corners. The deceased was one of the pioneers of this township and a most excellent woman. The funeral service was held at the house Saturday, Rev. J. W. Sheehan conducting the services. Interment in Otisco cemetery by Undertakers Foster, Ritter & Foster. The following obituary written by Mrs. M. A. Filkins was read at the funeral: Mrs. Almeda Filkins Weeks, aged nearly 84 years, and for more than 57 years a well known and highly respected pioneer of Otisco, died at the home of R. E. Bradish, Thursday morning, Apr. 13th. In 1838 she was united in marriage to Hiram Weeks, who died at Greenville in 1872, since which time she has made her home with her daughter. Ten children came to bless their home, of which five are left to mourn her demise; Mrs. Henriett Andrews, of Saranac, Mrs. Lunett Curtice, Mrs. John Arnwine and Leonard Weeks, of Belding, and Mrs. Ruben Bradish, of Otisco, who with her husband has anticipated every wish, and devoted their lives to smooth the pathway of her declining years. She also leaves seventeen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren, one sister Mrs. James Cable, of Mackinac, and one brother, M. A. Filkins, of Belding. Fourteen years ago she received a fall since which time she has been unable to walk without crutches. For thirty-three years she has trod the path of widow- hood; one after another she laid her loved ones to rest, but her loving cheer was never abated; her life work abounding in good and charitable deeds to those about her. Her memory will be cherished in many a home, where her kindly acts will live as a monument to the noble and generous nature of the one who has passed from earth to the realities of the great beyond. Her friends have rejoiced that her life has been prolonged far beyond the usual allotment of Mankind, but this last illness proved too much for her weakened constitution and she often expressed the wish that she might pass away. The last words she uttered were “Is Hiram here?” She then passed into a comatose condition remaining so till she slept the sleep of death.
