Alton – Died, the 1st at his home where he settled in 1846, Augustus Weeks, aged
85 years and 7 months.  Funeral from the Alton church Tuesday, at 12 o’clock. 
The deceased leaves four daughters and two sons to mourn his loss, with a large
circle of friends.

Local Brevities – Asher Williams was called to Keene Tuesday to attend the
funeral of his brother-in-law, Augustus Weeks, a pioneer of this county, aged 84
years.

Grattan – Augustus K. Weeks passed to higher life Nov. 4, just as day broke in
splendor and the orient sky was filled with beauty.  He was 83 years old.  He
had been longing to depart and death was simply going to sleep.  He closed his
eyes to awake where the sun never sets.  A pioneer of fifty-three years in Flat
River Valley, he was beloved by all.  A model of affection in and to his family,
a just, noble father his noble aim to do good.  Two little ones sleep in the
Panesville, O., cemetery, one daughter at Ashley and two sons elsewhere, while
four daughters and two sons remain, all attending the burial service at Alton
church, except Mrs. Lettie Tripp, a resident of far away Washington state.  Mrs.
Wealthy Weeks, wife of the late Frank Weeks was present from Grand Rapids, also
Mrs. Hattie Alger and family.  Mrs. VanDuson from Battle Creek, also another
daughter with her husband being with the bereaved ones.  Father, sweetly sleep.
 Thou art with the loved one gone before.  With thy Saviour and thy God.
