Her maiden name was Sprague, and she was born in New York State May 22, 1831. When two years old her parents moved to Canada, and six years later, in July, 1939, they came to Michigan, settling in Keene, this county. At the age of 22, she was married to Vine Welch, of the well-known pioneer family of that name. Their home was in Easton or in Keene until 1883, when they moved into the city, where Mr. Welch died two years later, and where Mrs. Welch has since resided. Seven children were born to them, of whom three survive: Elijah S. of this city, Mrs. F. P. Hunter of Keene, and Simon A. of Grand Rapids. “Aunt Parny” as she was affectionately called by intimate friends, was one of the good women of the pioneer type, whose devotion to her family and affectionate interest in all friends will cause her memory to be long cherished. Funeral service at the home, 539 West Main Street, at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon.
