Died, after an illness of nearly two years, Thomas Welch, aged 73 years. Deceased was born in the state of Maryland, of English parents, where he passed his boyhood days. At an early age he emigrated to the state of Pennsylvania. When he grew to manhood in 1841, he married Miss Emma Snyder, who survives him. Four children were born of this union, all of them having passed in early youth to the spirit land. In 1884, accompanied by his then young wife, he came to Michigan and settled in Lyons, where with the exception of about ten years he has been an honored and respected citizen, and has lived about that length of time at St. Johns, Clinton county, where by his genial manner and disposition he made many friends. The aged widow has the sympathy of the community in her great loss. Funeral services were held at the residence of his brother-in-law, Dr. Jewett, on Wednesday, Rev. A. F. Niles officiating. The remains were buried in the beautiful cemetery east of the village. Thus one more pioneer of Ionia county, after having passed a long and useful life, and leaving an unsullied name behind, has passed the boundary line and joined the great majority.
